Marshall Journalism Incentive Fund
A donation of $17,024 in 1991 from the Marshall family, who were associated with the Cedar Rapids Gazette for 100 years, established the endowed Marshall Journalism Incentive Fund. The fund's purpose is to encourage youth interest in the field of journalism. Income received from this fund provides annual scholarships to Linn County high school students to attend Iowa Summer Journalism Workshops. The fund is administered by the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
The Marshall Journalism Incentive Fund honors Harry L. Marshall (1863-1932) and his sons Verne (1889-1965) and Clare R. (1893-1944) Marshall, all former editors and partial owners of The Gazette.
Every year, students from schools in Linn County receive funding to explore their love and interest in journalism and further their skills at the Iowa Summer Journalism Workshops.
