One of our most popular workshops, Advanced Graphic Design is constructed for those looking to take the next step in design using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and other useful online design tools. Last year’s graduates of this workshop returned to their high school yearbooks and newspapers with the tools to dazzle their readers, their advisers and their publication’s co-workers. This is not a workshop for those content to sit and look at pictures. You’ll be put to work, spending hours each day getting hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology and design theory. Bring content from your publications to be repackaged into stunning, relevant, contemporary designs. You will study modern design, font and color theory as well as design software– all while preparing alternative story forms and multi-spread theme packages. The goal is for each student to return to school with design ideas they can put into place on their publication in the coming school year.

Kevin Ripka is a professor in the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches visual design, multimedia storytelling, and other design-oriented classes.
