Are you a social media superstar? Do you have a smart phone and like going on adventures? Would you rather be behind the camera than in front of it? In the social media journalism workshop, Jarrin Williams will teach you how to find stories on your campus and tell them using social media. You will develop skills to help you capture effective photos and videos on your phone and edit them into brief story packages. We'll cover what a social media editor does/manages and the difference between social media reporting and promotion. By the time the workshop is over, you will be ready to capture stories to publish original and new content directly to social media on your publication social media platforms during the upcoming school year! 

*Worked created in the workshop will be used on the Iowa Summer Journalism Workshop’s social media and website.

Materials needed:

• Smart phone or DSLR camera
• Charger 
• Storage/memory on your phone for the week
• Earbuds or headphones 
• Comfortable shoes (social media journalists move around a LOT)
• Notebook + pen
